A shortcut, a cheap trick, a ploy to convince you that you need something that you really don’t, the gimmick promises more than it delivers. In this exhibition, we are inviting artists to make and show work exploring THE GIMMICK, an aesthetic category researched and written about by aesthetic theorist Sianne Ngai in her 2020 book Theory of the Gimmick: Aesthetic Judgment and Capitalist Form.
