A Glitch aesthetics, once seen as mere digital malfunctions, have evolved into a powerful visual and conceptual language. From Rosa Menkman’s explorations of compression artifacts and error aesthetics to Nam June Paik’s pioneering experiments with television distortions, artists have long used malfunctions as a means of exposing hidden structures and questioning dominant narratives. How can these ideas be pushed further in today’s world?
Exploring analogue interpretations of digital disruption, we have created a show exploring how glitches, blips, and bugs manifest beyond the screen through physical media, material decay, disrupted processes, or hacked infrastructures. This investigation delves into the potential of error to transcend mere malfunction, questioning how it can be depicted tangibly and transform into a method of creation, a dynamic movement, or even a powerful act of resistance.
Over twenty local Austrian artists and international artists will be presenting artworks addressing the theme, across all media, from moving image, sound, and installation to print, sculpture, and performance.
